According to the Greek writer Ctesias, Sardanapalus ( SAR-də-NAP-ə-ləs; Ancient Greek: Σαρδανάπαλος), sometimes spelled Sardanapallus (Σαρδανάπαλλος), was the last king of Assyria, although in fact Aššur-uballiṭ II (612–605 BC) holds that distinction.
