The Sturmabteilung ([ˈʃtʊʁmʔapˌtaɪlʊŋ] ; lit. 'Storm Division' or loosely 'stormtroopers'), or SA, was the original paramilitary militia under Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party of Germany. The organisation played a significant role in Hitler's rise to power in the 1920s and early 1930s.
