The history of the chair dates to antiquity, with surviving evidence from Ancient Egypt and Mesopotamia; chairs were also used in Ancient Greece, Rome, and among the Aztecs. In China, depictions of chairs survive from the 6th century AD, although they did not become widespread until the 12th.
