On 2 April 2017, a young woman was raped by a stranger at the Siegaue nature reserve in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis, in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. The case received a large amount of media coverage because of the perpetrator's status as an illegal immigrant and failed asylum seeker.
